At Secondary school, I passed an ATCL on Piano and and LTCL on clarinet. While completing a Masters degree in composition at Auckland University, I was appointed Principal clarinet in the Symphonia of Auckland, where I stayed until its demise in 1982.

At that stage I trained to become a music teacher - ending up as Head of Department at Epson Girls Grammr School and Rosehill College. I was one of the writers for the NCEA Music syllabus and spent some time after I left teaching, working as a consultant to music teachers.

Since 2000, as a musician, working on a freelance basis, I have been engaged in several activities. I work as a clarinettist, conductor, composer, arranger, and examiner for Trinity College, London.

Orchestra administrator
From 2006, I worked as artistic advisor for the Tauranga Performing Arts Trust, bringing high quality chamber music and chamber orchestra concerts to the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions of New Zealand. In the last few years I have concentrated on smaller group concerts.

Examiner for Trinity College, London
Since 2007 I have been an examiner for Trinity College, London - as both a Classical/Jazz and a Rock and Pop examiner. This is an exciting position that puts me right into the community in all parts of the world, representing one of the great music examination boards in the world. I have examined in several countries in Asia, South Africa and Australia.
